I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. Meet mom blogger Quartney...
1. Tell us about yourself. Name, where you are from, what you do, how many kids you have, etc.
My name is Quartney (yes, that's really how it's spelled, yes my parents are crazy) and I have 1 bouncing baby boy, Jude! Jude is 5 months old. I'm currently a stay at home mom and just got into the blogging scene.
2. What challenges have you come across as a mom? What did you do to overcome this?
Honestly, one of my biggest challenges has been the sleep deprivation. I have always been a person that enjoys going to bed early, sleeping in late, and having a nap sometime between those. My world got rocked when little Jude came along and petitioned naps from day one and still continues to wake up every 1-2 hours throughout the night.
I'm still trying to overcome this, I guess. I was napping with him every time he napped, but now I can usually get through the day without a nap and just a few (like 60..) oz. of Coke.
3. Why did you decide to become a blogger and what advice can you give other moms who want to start doing this?
I decided to start blogging for fun. I have a lot of things to talk about, and I wanted to get those thoughts on paper, or screen I guess. I write about postpartum depression and things of that sort, so I thought I might as well share my blog with my Instagram followers, in case it could help even one of them going through the same thing.
My advice to those who have thought about blogging is to just do it! If you don't feel comfortable with anyone reading your posts quite yet, just save them as drafts. It feels really good to get all those thoughts and emotions out of your head.
4. What advice or techniques can you give moms to remind them to stay confident throughout the ups and downs of parenting?
I don't feel like I am seasoned enough as a parent to give much advice here; but I guess I would say to just remember that every phase your child is in, is just that, a phase. If the newborn stage isn't your favorite, that's okay! You have many more years to enjoy with your child. The hard times will pass, sometimes slowly, but they do pass.
5. How important is it for moms to make time for themselves and why?
For me, taking time for myself is CRUCIAL! It's easy to lose who you are when you become a parent. You spend so much time caring for your new baby, sometimes you neglect yourself in the process. I enjoy having some alone time after Jude goes to bed to read, blog, or even just watch Netflix and eat ice cream out of the carton.
6. How are you utilizing social media to increase your confidence?
From Instagram, I have found a wonderful group of moms that I just love! I always enjoy seeing their posts about what's going on with them and their kiddos and they are always so kind in commenting and engaging with me on mine. These moms in particular don't pretend to keep it together all the time, they keep things real and that helps me to feel like I'm not doing so bad as a mom myself.
7. I believe we all have to look at the positives in ourselves and rid ourselves of the negative, what would be your favorite aspect of yourself and why?
I'd like to think that I'm a pretty good listener. When my friends or family members come to me with problems, I fully listen to and engage with them and ask if they want help in figuring out a solution. I try my best to help my loved ones whenever possible.
8. What is your future goal as a mom, blogger and influencer?
It really is my hobby to take and edit photos of my son, so I hope to learn and improve my photography and editing skills. There is always room for improvement as a writer as well, so improving my writing is a lifelong goal. As far as influencing, I really love networking and connecting with other moms and small shops. It has been so fun to collaborate with buisnesses and I hope to continue to do more of it.
9. Spreading love has been my motto lately. What's one way you spread love?
By being a friend, smiling at strangers, visiting the cute elderly women I meet at church haha.
10. A fun question, if you could be a car which one would it be and why?
Totally a mom answer, but definietly a MINI VAN! I never understood the hype about them until recently getting one as a rental car. The sliding doors, the walkway between the seats, and you guys... The STORAGE!!! I've been trying to sell my husband on the idea ever since.
