Las Vegas Mom Style
Las Vegas may be a place for adults but last weekend I turned it into a place for moms. Yes the drinks are fabulous, gambling is everywhere and nightlife is crazy but that doesn't mean Las Vegas can't be a family place too. It offers something for everyone even my kids loved it!
We stayed at the MGM Grand in a StayWell suite. Upon walking on the floor of the StayWell suites it smells like you entered the spa. The room has great amenities like a humidifier, vitamin c shower and the reason we chose this room, two double queen beds (one for us and one for the kids). Another plus to this room is that in the lobby there is a lounge which offers free water and apples to anyone who stays in these rooms and the spa entrance fee is only $10, unfortunately I didn't make it to the spa. Besides the room, overall the MGM Grand is a great hotel. There are a few pools plus a river pool, there is a mall attached so if you need to get your kids a quick bite to eat there are fast food restaurants and the location is great it is lower down on the strip but close to some other great hotels you can walk to. I would definitely stay here again if we go back.
My favorite experience during this visit was The Marvel exhibit at Treasure Island. This interactive exhibit is not only enjoyable for the kids but for you as well. It takes you to The Avengers training facility and each room is dedicated to a different superhero from The Hulk and Thor to Iron Man and Black Widow. We saw costumes and read facts about each superhero as well as felt what it is like to be a superhero by testing our strength, vision and hand eye coordination. Besides all the fun in the exhibit there are so many places for a great photo op including jumping on Captain America's motorcycle or trying to pull up Thor's hammer! The best part for my entire family (including my mother-in-law) was the interactive video game we all got to play. As you stand in front of large screens each person in your party picks an Avenger and is given an iPhone, when the game starts it is your job to shoot at all the giant life size robots coming at you so it feels like you are actually in the room with them. When the exhibit is over there is a great Marvel store filled with a variety of souvenirs to choose from. Whether or not you are a Marvel fan this exhibit is so worth trying out and you don't need to have kids to enjoy this either, it is GREAT for everyone! The Beatles Cirque du Soleil show at The Mirage was another fun event. If you are a Beatles fan then this is the show for you. The music is paired perfectly with this colorful array of acrobatics. You can sing along to all your favorite songs as every inch of the stage has something to look at. The trapeze artists are so incredibly talented and you can't believe what they can do. We decided to see this show because my kids enjoy The Beatles music, their favorite part was when they brought out two large ramps for the roller skaters who were flying faster than your eyes could move, it was fantastic. It was definitely a fun show and if you are looking for dinner beforehand try Osteria Costa in The Mirage for some homemade pasta, it was delicious!
The main reason we went out to Las Vegas was for my husband and I to renew our vows for our 10 year anniversary with Elvis. We decided to do something fun and different for our renewal so we planned on getting dressed up and making it a true celebration with our family and friends. After reading various reviews online I decided to book our renewal at https://lasvegaselvisweddingchapel.com and I am so happy I did. They were always in contact and making sure we had the best experience. Kayla our wedding coordinator was so easy to work with and Elvis sounded just like the real Elvis. If you are looking to get married or renew your vows with Elvis in Vegas then I definitely recommend this chapel. It was a blast!
Every hotel in Las Vegas has something you want to see from the gondolas in The Venetian to the roller coaster at New York New York and the sphinx at The Luxor, most of our days were spent touring these fantastic hotels. There is so much to see in each one so if you are planning a trip definitely plan your day out.
Besides all the fun events we attended the restaurants in Vegas are incredible and accommodating to your kids wants and needs. We ate at Osteria Costa (The Mirage), Lupo (Mandalay Bay), The Peppermill (diner on the strip) and Cleaver (off the strip). My favorite had to be Cleaver. This off the strip steakhouse is definitely worth the trip. It is located in a strip mall but once you walk in the dim lights, fun paintings and cool atmosphere makes you feel like you are right back on the strip. The drinks are absolutely delicious and the food is incredible. A bonus to this special place is if you are there between 5 and 8 you get happy hour pricing so certain meals and drinks are half price!! Cleaver is definitely a special place so grab an uber or a taxi and try it out if you are in the Las Vegas area. http://www.cleaverlasvegas.com/
Who says kids can't have fun in Vegas?!? I know mine did! Yes Vegas is great for bachelor/bachelorette parties and adult only vacations but it can also be a fun family vacation. Besides the pools there is so much to see and experience that is kid appropriate. If you are looking for a family vacation for a fun few days of shows, exhibits and good food then Vegas may just be the place for you and my one tip is to bring the grandparents so you can experience that adult only fun, we went to the club Omnia in Caesars and it is pretty amazing, plus every parent needs a night of drinks and dancing sometimes!
